Cerebella Hydroplasia.

‘‘ They are a dog first, even if they have a special need. Even with disabilities or problems, they can still live a good, quality life.’’

Cerebella Hydroplasia

Symptoms of Cerebella Hydroplasia include tremors, lack of balance and coordination, head wobbling, excessive movements especially when the dogs is walking.

Cerebella Hydroplasia is a neurological disease typically seen in puppies from birth. It’s non-progressive meaning it doesn’t worsen over time. The condition happens when the cerebellum part of the brain doesn’t form properly whilst the dogs mother is pregnant.

Cerebella Hydroplasia is sometimes caused by genetic mutation or intrinsic factors its partially prevalent in breeds such as Airdales, Boston Terriers, Bull Terriers, Chow Chows and Labradors.

As a rescue we have vast experience with this condition having rehabilitated several puppies with this disability. Although this isn’t a life limiting condition we have found it can come with comorbidities such as epilepsy. With the correct rehabilitation dogs with this condition can go on to live a relatively normal life with just environmental changes to support mobility and cognition.
